Leyton Orient snap up Craig Clay on free transfer from Motherwell

The 25-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the National League club
Leyton Orient have made Craig Clay their ninth signing of the summer with the midfielder agreeing a two-year deal at Brisbane Road.
The 25-year-old will boost the options available to O’s boss Steve Davis in midfield and has experienced of the National League.
Clay has most recently been plying his trade in the Scottish Premiership with Motherwell, but has left them to join Orient on a free transfer.
He most recently played in the National League during the 2015/16 campaign and helped Grimsby Town achieve promotion.

The Nottingham-born midfielder started his career with Chesterfield, but struggled to force his way into their starting XI.
Loan spells at Barrow and Alfreton Town bore little reward before short spells with York City and Halifiax Town.

Clay found his feet at Grimsby, however, and remained at the Mariners for two seasons before linking up with Motherwell in August.
After a successful spell in Scotland, where Clay made 39 appearances in all competitions, he has now moved down south.
The midfielder spoke to the official Motherwell website about his decision to leave the Fir Park club.
Clay said: “I really enjoyed my time up in Scotland and I want to thank all the people around the club for making me feel so welcome.
“Motherwell is a great club and I want to wish everyone there all the best of luck. I am now looking forward to my new challenge down in London, but I’ll also keep a close eye on things back at Fir Park.”
Well boss Stephen Robinson added: “Craig is a good lad, was popular around the club and gave everything whilst he was here.
“However, I have a lot of competition for places in that area of the park, particularly around our young talent, and I wanted to open up that pathway. In turn, we will look to reinvest some of the budget into other areas of the team.”
