Riza informed of decision during meeting with director of football Martin Ling and interim CEO Marshall Taylor

Leyton Orient manager Omer Riza has been told he must re-apply for the job if he wishes to be considered for the post for the new season.

Following the takeover by Eagles Investments 2017, the 37-year-old met with director of football Martin Ling and interim CEO Marshall Taylor.

During that meeting, Riza was informed that with his contract due to expire on June 30, he would have to re-apply for the role if he wished to be considered for the post for the upcoming campaign.

A statement from Riza read: “It is with great disappointment that my meeting today with Leyton Orient did not involve any guaranteed offer of a position for me within the club.

“I was thanked for all my hard work and invited to re-apply for one of three roles which are available at the club.

“I have made the decision to apply for the role of first team manager based on the support, passion and drive shown by the players, staff and fans.

“I have also indicated to the club one other role that I would be happy to fill within the academy.

“This role would enable me to ensure and continue the development and progression of youth players through the ranks at the club to help safeguard the club’s future.

“I have worked tirelessly during the off season to ensure that whatever the fate of the club the team was handed over in the best possible condition.

“Pre-season friendlies were arranged by me and I understand most of these will be kept in place.

“I am thankful to all the staff and coaches at Leyton Orient, especially to my first team staff.

“They helped make an extremely difficult task one I will never regret and I would also like to thank the players, especially the younger ones, who I have had the honour of working with over the course of two years for the achievements they have accomplished.

“I would like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to the fans for the support they have shown me - it has been a pleasure.”

Riza has been in charge of the O’s since March following the resignation of previous manager Danny Webb.
