The O’s were unlucky not to win the last time they played the Whites, but will aim to put that right on Saturday

James Dayton believes Leyton Orient should take confidence from their previous clash with Dover Athletic ahead of Saturday’s FA Trophy tie.

The O’s make the trip to Kent to take on a National League rival for a place in the last-eight of the competition.

Back on November 18, the two teams played out a 1-1 draw at Brisbane Road with Craig Clay equalising with 12 minutes to go.

Orient nearly snatched the points late on, but Macauley Bonne’s header was saved by Whites goalkeeper Mitch Walker.

Dayton said: “The previous game does give everyone confidence and I thought we played well that day.

“We were unlucky at the end as ‘Macca’ had one saved on the line, so we will go there will a lot of belief.

“Obviously it is away this time, so it will be different at their place, but hopefully we can get a result.”

It is touch and go whether Dayton will be involved at the Crabble Athletic Ground on Saturday after he suffered a reoccurrence of his calf problem last weekend.

The former Cheltenham Town winger was forced off during the 3-2 defeat at home to Aldershot Town and had to sit out the 2-1 win at Halifax Town on Tuesday night.

“We will be looking forward to it,” said Dayton. If we can get through it is another step closer to Wembley and we want to do well in this competition.”

Once Dayton returns to full fitness again, he will be looking to improve on his goal tally for O’s.

The 29-year-old has scored three times since his summer move, but wants to get on the scoresheet more regularly between now and the end of the season.

Dayton added: “I feel I have done ok. I would’ve liked to have scored a few more goals, but other than that I feel I have done well for the team. I just want to set goals up and score as many as I can.

“I know the basics of working hard is what I should be doing every single game and the added bonuses are the assists and goals, so if I can keep getting the assists and score a few more I would have had an ok season.”

While Dayton has not scored as much as he would have liked, there is no doubt O’s are a much better team when he is playing and they’ll hope he is fit for Saturday.
