Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people who could offer loving homes to children in care are being urged to consider adopting or fostering youngsters in Tower Hamlets.

There are currently 37 children waiting for adoption in the borough, and 23 who need a long-term foster home.

Tower Hamlets Council are urging people from the LGBT community to consider becoming parents, as part of the second annual LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week.

Council bosses want residents to attend an event in central London to find out more about the process – an LGBT meeting is being held at 120 Fleet Street at 6.30pm on March 8.

Cllr Oliur Rahman, cabinet member for children, schools and families said: “I hope that as many people as possible make the most of the fostering and adoption information and support that is available during March.”
