The O’s midfielder, who wore the captain’s armband on Saturday, is eager for the east Londoners to keep improving

Leyton Orient’s vice-captain Liam Kelly has called on his team-mates to try and build momentum by picking up at least a point at Plymouth Argyle this evening.

Gavin Massey’s 88th minute strike at Yeovil Town stopped O’s run of six consecutive League Two defeats as they drew 1-1 at Huish Park.

And Kelly is hoping they can make it two games unbeaten tonight when they make the long trip to Home Park.

He said: “I don’t think any team in this league is unbelievable, so we’ll go there with great confidence and believe we can take something from the match.

“I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that, I just think we need to make sure we play the right way, don’t make silly errors and be a bit more creative.”

Kelly believes the way Orient finished Saturday’s match should give them a boost ahead of facing the Pilgrims this evening.

It seemed like O’s would lose again before Massey smashed in his third goal of 2017 to salvage a point.

Francois Zoko had put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half time despite Orient looking in control for most of the first 45.

The ex-Bristol City midfielder admitted it was disappointing to concede in that manner, but praised the spirit shown after the break.

“It was a tough one to take and the boys weren’t happy at half time. We knew we needed to do something about it,” said Kelly.

“But second half we went out there and battled until the end of the game and the finish to the match is a big confidence booster ahead of facing Plymouth.”

Although Orient stopped their poor run of form, Kelly insisted it is only a small step in the right direction.

The former Oldham Athletic captain believes the east Londoners have a lot of hard work ahead of them.

But he is hoping they can continue to show signs of improvement under new manager Danny Webb tonight.

Kelly added: “It’s hard when you are in a bad run of form, you want to stop the rot, which we did at Yeovil.

“It was late, but I think that shows good character from the team to manage to come back and keep fighting.

“We move on to Plymouth now, Saturday’s game is gone and it’s a point, so we can’t get too excited.

“It is only a point, so we move on to the next match and hopefully we can take something from it.”

After missing four months of football, Kelly is expected to start his second match in the space of a week tonight.

The midfielder, who wore the captain’s armband on Saturday, admitted the opening 10 minutes were difficult.

But when speaking to the press after the 1-1 draw at Yeovil, he felt absolutely fine despite completing his first full match since October 4.

“We’ve been unfortunate with the bad weather and the squad being a bit depleted, so we haven’t had any reserve games,” said the 27-year-old.

“It was straight in against Yeovil and I found the first 10 minutes hard, but after that I felt absolutely fine.

“I got my second wind and I felt good and didn’t feel sore after, so I’m glad to get through injury free. I just need to make sure it stays that way until the end of the season.”
