Final Third Development League: Leyton Orient 0 Southend United 1

Kevin Lisbie played the full 90 minutes for Leyton Orient in their ‘Final Third’ Development League match with Southend United earlier this afternoon.

The 37-year-old was released by Barnet at the beginning of this month and has been training with the east Londoners.

He played the whole match, but was unable to get on the scoresheet in front of Andy Hessenthaler – who was in the dug-out alongside goalkeeper coach Lee Harrison.

The O’s had Lisbie up front with Scott Kashket against the youthful Blues as they lined up in a 4-4-2 formation.

Alan Dunne and Frazer Shaw were the full-backs with captain Mathieu Baudry partnering Jack Humphreys at the heart of their defence.

Trialist Antonio German, most recently of Kerala Blasters, was on the right and Myles Judd on the left with Sammy Moore and Freddy Moncur in the middle.

Both teams made a quiet start to proceedings with Lisbie not having too much involvement in the opening 10 minutes of the match.

Fred Card went close for the visitors with quarter of an hour played as he headed wide before Dan Matsuzaka did the same minutes later.

Kashket perhaps should have put Orient ahead, though, shortly afterwards when German played him through one-on-one with Ted Smith, but the young forward fired wide.

Lisbie and Kashket nearly linked up afterwards before Luke Prosser tested Charlie Grainger from range.

Harry Kyrprianou went close twice for the Blues as he first fired over the bar before heading a corner off target.

It remained goalless until the break and Hessenthaler took off Baudry and Shaw during the interval. They were replaced by Sam Ling and Sandro Semedo with Dunne moving to the centre of defence.

Judd was forced off early in the second period with an injury and Montel Agyemang came on to take his place.

Grainger was called into action when Kyprianou tried to beat him at his near post, but the Orient stopper pushed his effort behind for a corner.

Unfortunate the O’s custodian was beaten from the following set piece as Matsuzaka headed home in the 54th minute.

The hosts immediately looked for a response as Lisbie and German linked up nicely before the experienced forward fired over the crossbar.

Orient were unable to fashion any more chances before Moore was replaced by Victor Adeboyejo with 24 minutes remaining.

Semedo went close a minute later, letting fly from the left, but Smith managed to tip behind for a corner.

The O’s struggled to break down the Southend back four until late on when Kashket raced through on goal.

He could only drag his effort wide and the chance, as well as Orient’s hopes of getting back on level terms, were gone.

The full time whistle followed minutes later to confirm a 1-0 defeat for the O’s against a youthful Southend team.
