Rail operators are collecting up litter dropped by passengers and packing it off for recycling.
They are sweeping up as much as 25 tonnes every month on the Fenchurch Street-Southend line.
A recycling scheme at Fenchurch Street started last May by train operator c2c’s group station manager Cassie Sutton has now been extended to all 24 stations on the network.
All waste and litter is now being taken away and sorted for recycling, reducing what’s sent to landfill sites to a minimum.
