Liverani: In a single match anything is possible

Italian boss discusses Swindon clash, his future and being positive

Leyton Orient manager Fabio Liverani doesn’t believe it will make a difference if Swindon rest some of their first team players tomorrow, he is expecting his side to come out on top regardless.

The Brisbane Road club need three points to give themselves a chance of surviving on the final day of the League One campaign and hope Crawley, Notts County and Colchester all fail to pick up three points.

The Italian admitted the Robins possess more quality than the O’s, but believes in a one-off match anything is possible.

He has backed his players to get the victory they need and hopes results elsewhere have been kind for the E10 outfit.

“We have scouts and we have watched Swindon’s matches and the last match against Colchester,” said Liverani.

“Swindon is a team inside the play-offs and they are one of the best sides in the table. There is a difference, at this moment, in quality (between ourselves and them), but in a single match anything is possible.

“It doesn’t make a big difference for us if they rest players. We want to win so we think about ourselves.

“We know for them it is not the last match of the season, but everybody has to think about themselves.

“If Swindon do change players I am not sure if it is a positive or negative for us because the players coming in will probably have more hunger.”

It remains a guessing game as to whether Swindon boss Mark Cooper will use players that haven’t featured as regularly as others on Sunday.

But what is certain, is Orient need to register a first victory since April 1 – when Josh Wright’s goal secured three points at Coventry.

Liverani admitted maybe the club felt they were safe after that win, but he is adamant everyone will be giving 100 per cent at the County Ground tomorrow.

He added: “For us it is very important to win the last game against Swindon.

“It has not been possible to do that before, but I think the next game we need maximum three points and after I look at other matches and the results (involving Notts County, Crawley and Colchester).

“We are still positive, as always, and we will put everything into the match and try and get three points and then see what has happened with the other games.”

The future of the Italian boss has been debated for a while amongst O’s supporters, despite the 39-year-old having two years remaining on his contract.

Liverani has insisted he wants to remain as Orient manager, even if they are relegated, so he will have the opportunity to plan during the summer and bring players he wants to Brisbane Road.

He believes his relationship with President Francesco Becchetti is good, despite failing to lead the club to safety yet, and is happy with their rapport.

“I have not been a manager for a long time, but I am very confident,” added Liverani.

“Here I have a good relationship with the owner. I would like to work in a situation where there is a good relation and a good feeling and for the future we will see what happens.”
