Brisbane Road boss reflects on 6-1 loss to MK Dons

Leyton Orient manager Fabio Liverani apologised to the supporters that made the trip to Stadium mk to watch their side suffer a 6-1 defeat to MK Dons.

O’s conceded four times in the first half and twice more after the break, with Jay Simpson’s 69th minute strike a mere consolation on a shocking afternoon for the club.

It was an awful day for the Brisbane Road outfit as they suffered their heaviest defeat for over 10 years and their Italian boss was honest after the match.

“I apologise to the supporters for the performance today and I take the responsibility for this,” said Liverani via a translator.

“I have to say the MK Dons are so far the best team we have faced in the league.

“They play really good football, the ball on the floor, and they are very good in one v one situations. In the final third they can be very dangerous so well done to them.

“We have to be fair and again well done to MK Dons. They have played together for many years and they have got a very good manager, Karl Robinson, who has been here for quite a few seasons.

“His team know what to do, they play very good football and MK Dons quality is higher than our quality on the pitch. We have to be fair and honest and admit they were better than us.”

Although O’s dropped back into the bottom four following their heaviest loss of the season, Liverani tried to look towards the positives after the match.

Orient’s future is still in their own hands, but they need to beat Rochdale on Tuesday night to ensure that remains the case.

Defeat at Spotland Stadium would make relegation almost certain with just two fixtures remaining and both against teams in the play-offs.

Liverani added: “I think in every defeat we have to try and look at the positives and the positives now are there are three games to be played and nine points available and everything is in our hands still.

“Unfortunately it has been two or three games where we have been saying that we need to get three points the next match, but we haven’t so Tuesday is very important.

“I really hope I can give the supporters joy on Tuesday and more importantly at the end of the season so we can restart and plan ahead for the following season.”

905 Orient supporters made the trip to Stadium mk, but most had left by the time referee Christopher Kavanagh blew for full time.

“As a supporter I probably would have done the same,” Liverani admitted.

O’s will hope for much better on Tuesday versus Rochdale.
