Italian boss departs Brisbane Road after failing to avoid relegation

Leyton Orient have confirmed that Fabio Liverani has left the club by mutual consent.

The Italian was appointed O’s manager on December 8 – replacing Mauro Milanese - and handed a two and a half year contract with the task of helping the Brisbane Road club avoid relegation for the 2014/15 campaign.

He wasn’t able to achieve that, though, and won just eight of the 27 matches he was in charge of – overseeing 13 defeats including a 6-1 thrashing to MK Dons.

Orient supporters called for the former Lazio midfielder to leave after relegation to League Two was confirmed on the final day of the season following a 2-2 draw with Swindon Town, and they have now got their wish.

A statement on the club website read: “We announce today that Fabio Liverani will be leaving his role as manager of the club by mutual consent.

“His assistants, Maurizio Cantarelli and Marcello Donatelli, will also be leaving the club. The club would like to thank Fabio, Maurizio and Marcello for their efforts this season, and we wish them all the best for the future.
