AN INVESTIGATION is under way after a fire broke out at Liverpool Street station last night.

Thousands of commuters had to be evacuated from the station at around 10.20pm after the blaze started in a Burger King restaurant.

More than 1,000 passengers were led out from the main railway and another 1,000 from the Tube station.

And roads around the station were shut off from Great Eastern Street in the north to Wormwood Street in the south while 40 firefighters tackled the blaze.

The fire was under control by 1am this morning and the London Fire Brigade say it is now under investigation.

A LFB spokesman said it was thought a kitchen ventilation shaft in the restaurant had caught fire.
