Confiscated cash from loan sharks has been given to three Tower Hamlets projects that raise awareness of illegal money lending.
The England Illegal Money Lending Team provided the ill-gotten games, with residents choosing which projects would receive the funding.
Its head, Tony Quigly, said: “The scheme was hugely positive with the extorted cash being put to excellent use.”
Local Jobs Local People at Bromley by Bow Centre received £1600 as overall winners.
They will set up careers advice and job employment workshops as well as promote financial literacy and money management to young people.
Neighbours in Poplar and Poplar Harca were awarded £500 each.
The former will host money management workshops aimed at Asian and Somali communities, while the latter will host door knocking exercises and encourage the community to report crime and illegal money lending.
Victims of loan sharks can contact the confidential hotline on 0300 555 2222
