MP for Popular and Limehouse Jim Fitzpatrick has branded plans to move successful services in-house as “self-serving politics”.
He told the Advertiser that he couldn’t understand why mayor Lutfur Rahman had decided to centralise youth services. This would mean taking them away from the voluntary groups who have won two awards for the services.
Mr Fitzpatrick also questioned plans to strip the Isle of Dogs Community Foundation of S106 distribution responsibilities when it is currently upheld as a model of good practice.
“My remit is to protect what works and to make sure there is no deterioration in service”, he said. “These changes look fundamentally wrong and part of a different political agenda. This is self-serving politics.”
