A delegation from the Bangladesh garment trade has arrived in London to urge the 2012 Olympics organisers to make sure their sportswear suppliers are paying a living wage.

Members of the country’s Garment Workers’ Federation met the Poplar & Limehouse MP Jim Fitzpatrick at Westminster to discuss their campaign calling on Adidas, Nike and Puma to commit to better pay and ending excessive and compulsory overtime.

The MP has been supporting the garment trade campaign since touring Bangladesh three years ago, when he saw sweatshop factory conditions himself, and has now written to Lord Coe’s organising committee pressing for a better deal for workers in the Third World making goods for London 2012.
