Plans to redraw the boundaries between wards and reduce the number of councillors in Tower Hamlets have been released by the Local Government Boundary Commission.
The Commission has unveiled draft proposals to reduce the number of councillors sitting in the Town Hall from 51 to 45 after hearing submissions from political groups and local residents.
The borough was one of a number targeted by the Commission due to the high levels of voter inequality which means the value of people’s votes in local elections varies significantly according to where they live.
Residents are now being asked to come forward with their views on the consultation ahead of the publication of final recommendations next year.
Max Caller, the Commission’s chair, said: “Your views will make a difference.
“We will carefully consider all evidence that is provided during this phase of the review whoever it is from and whether it applies to the whole borough or just a small part of it.”
