POLICE investigating allegations of electoral irregularities in the mayoral election are looking into three complaints.

The team at Scotland Yard are looking at an allegation under the Representation of the People Act and two further allegations, including one complaint about an advert that contained a personal attack on one of the candidates Helal Abbas.

The Met Police has also decided that no further action will be taken after investigating another allegation.

Meanwhile the Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that it is unable to investigate a complaint about the advert. An ASA official said: “The rationale behind the exclusion is that, if the ASA took action against marketing material that attempted to influence a vote, it would equate to interference with the democratic process.”

The ASA said due to the political nature of the advert it could not investigate it.
