A ROAD in Tower Hamlets generated almost 150,000 in parking fines last year, new figures have shown.
Hackney Road, which runs along the borough border with Hackney, was the top earner for the council’s ticket enforcement teams.
The borough came 15th in London for its top earning road, figures obtained by Freedom of Information requests showed.
Lambeth Council recorded the highest earning street, with Clapham Park Road generating more than 90,000 in parking fines – well above its nearest rival in Haringey which earned 60,000.
Last year, local government secretary Eric Pickles warned local authorities that they must not use parking enforcement as a way of raising cash amid the budget cuts they are facing.
