Extensive road renovations are nearing completion to a major thoroughfare in east London linking Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs.
A large slice of the mile-long Marsh Wall carriageway through South Quay, which runs from West Ferry Circus to Manchester Road, has been excavated to improve badly-needed utility connections such as electricity cables, sewers, gas and water mains.
Several major developments are being stalled over existing utilities not being able to cope, with the Isle of Dogs population set to rise by 10,000 in the next decade.
Contractors from Tower Hamlets Council have resurfaced 500ft of carriageway in one weekend, between Dock Bridge and Millharbour. Broken utility boxes were repaired and old iron manhole covers adjusted before the new road surface was laid.
