Businesses and charities have been praised by Employment Minister Mark Hoban for giving jobseekers work experience.

New figures this week reveal more than 2,500 people in east London have been placed on the Government’s work experience scheme.

“Businesses in east London are helping youngsters get their foot in the door with work experience placements,” the Minister said. “This helps jobseekers get experience in the world of work and increases chances of a job.”

Whitehall figures show 400 people in Tower Hamlets alone have joined the scheme since January, 2011, while another 220 have had placements with a guaranteed job interview.
