LABOUR in East London have kicked off their election campaign.
Poplar and Limehouse parliamentary candidate Jim Fitzpatrick boundaries held the meeting for 70 party activists and candidates in the local election at Trussler Hall in Poplar yesterday to launch Labour's campaign.
He is currently the MP for Poplar and Canning Town and the constituency has changed after a review by the Boundary Commission and is contesting the new seat.
Oona King, the Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Bow until 2005 when she lost to Respect's George Galloway by a narrow margin, spoke to campaigners at the gathering.
Mr Fitzpatrick said: "We have got existing councillors and people who are standing for the first time who would be a good addition in their wards on the council.
