EAST Enders are getting behind a campaign to bring back the 2012 Olympic marathon route to Tower Hamlets.

The route was originally planned to head along Whitechapel Road and Mile End Road but will now be re-routed through central London using the city’s historic buildings as a backdrop for the international TV footage.

Barrister Neil King who is running as the Conservative candidate in this month’s Tower Hamlets mayoral election said: “It should be in the East End and finish at the Olympic stadium.

They are squandering an opportunity by having it in the West End. This is a real opportunity to show people the rest of London.”
