A third of all Tower Hamlets council spending is going on adult social care with a growing ageing population, a Local Account report reveals.
Buts more adults are now taking control over their health and gaining independence after illness, according to the report. More adults with a learning disability are also being helped into jobs.
The report shows 3,719 people got help over the past 12 moths, with the council spending £116 million on adult social care—a third of its day-to-day budget.
“We are focussing on preventing poor health and helping people to be independent,” Adult Social Care director Denise Radley explained. “This is driving up standards for disabled, frail, vulnerable and elderly people.”
The Local Account sets out priorities for the council, which is facing rising demand for social care with an ageing population. Tower Hamlets is projected to have the fastest-growing population of any London borough over the next 10 years, with the demand for social care rapidly increasing.
