Tower Hamlets Council scooped two awards at a national awards ceremony for local government.
The council’s Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) and Carbon Fund project both won awards at the Local Government Chronicle awards last week.
The drugs service has 2,115 people engaged in treatment, the highest number in London.
The Carbon Fund project has seen nine schools handed budgets for energy efficiency projects, resulting in cheaper heating bills and warmer classrooms.
Additionally the Warmth scheme, which was match funded by British Gas, gave residents the opportunity to have the energy efficiency of their home improved with the aim of alleviating fuel poverty.
Tower Hamlets mayor John Biggs said: “We are thrilled to have been recognised for both of these awards, showcasing the innovative work of our staff.
“It is great to see our work winning national awards and I want to thank the teams involved for their dedication.”
