Town Hall bosses are a real hit in the Gay community in London’s East End after getting onto a list of Britain’s most diverse employers.
The highest new ‘local government’ entry on the UK Stonewall Index is Tower Hamlets Council, coming in at No 30 on the list of 100 best organisations for lesbian, gay and bi-sexual staff.
“Stamping out discrimination and empowering our residents are responsibilities we take seriously,” Tower Hamlets Mayor John Biggs said. “We’ll continue promoting a positive approach to equalities.”
The council has been praised for “diversity” in the community in October’s LGTB awards at the Town Hall.
Tower Hamlets Homes, the housing wing of the local authority, did even better—making it to the top five in the Stonewall Index chart for the second year running.
The list is compiled from submissions to the Workplace Equality Index, a benchmark used by employers to create inclusive workplaces.
