Tower Hamlets has lost more than 100 police and Community Support Officers since riots spread through the borough two years ago, it can be revealed.

Official Metropolitan Police figures show the borough’s force has lost 66 police officers and 54 PCSOs since rioting in August 2011.

Looters targeted Bethnal Green and parts of Bow as riots spread to the East End from Hackney and Tottenham two years ago.

The cost of criminal damage inflicted during the riots – triggered by the shooting of Mark Duggan by police in Tottenham – is estimated at £300million.

Across the capital, police officer and PCSO numbers have been cut by around 2,500 since 2011.
