The top local authority in London for gay rights in the workplace has been named as Tower Hamlets Council.

The Town Hall has emerged as the highest-ranking of all 33 London boroughs in Stonewall’s ‘Workplace Equality’ index.

It came 40th out of 376 organisations in the annual nationwide exercise measuring how discrimination is tackled and how inclusive workplaces are organised for lesbian, gay and bisexual employees.

The council’s assessment included its policies on diversity and bullying prevention. It was also recognised for the work of its staff forum and events held during last year’s LGBT History Month.
