A youth pledge scheme has been launched to combat hate crime in London’s East End in the New Year.
Teenagers signed the pledge at the launch at Mile End Ecology Pavilion as part of a campaign by Tower Hamlets youth service.
Hate crime training is being introduced in Tower Hamlets secondary schools and youth centres in the coming months aimed at getting youngsters involved in tackling hate and prejudice.
The Young Mayor of Tower Hamlets, Mahdi Alam, told the launch: “We are at the forefront in the fight against hate crime in this diverse and multicultural borough.”
Those signing the pledge committed themselves to combat prejudice, stop anyone violating another’s dignity through hate or ignorance, understand those who they perceive as being different, speak out against “prejudice, discrimination and injustice” and support victims targeted by hate.
