Community hub Toynbee Hall is set to host a series of lectures in December to mark the 70th anniversary of the Beveridge Report on the welfare state.
William Beveridge volunteered at Toynbee Hall, in Commercial Street, in 1903 – an experience which shaped his influential report into tackling poverty published almost 30 years later.
On December 1 shadow secretary of state for work and pensions Liam Byrne will appear in an event held in partnership with the Fabian Society, and on December 11 Labour MP Frank Field will outline the report’s continued relevance today.
