Police arrested two men during investigations into allegations of voting irregularities ahead of next week’s local and EU elections in east and north London.
A 38-year-old was detained yesterday following an inquiry into voting registration for May 22 at Tower Hamlets, Scotland Yard has confirmed.
A second man aged 33 was arrested in north London by the Met Police Homicide and Major Crime Command.
Both were detained “on suspicion of an offence” under the 1983 Representation of the People Act, while police looked into allegations relating to “potential false declarations” on nomination papers in Tower Hamlets and Enfield.
But they were later bailed to return in late June, pending further investigations. The two men are not linked, say police.
The electoral returning officers of Tower Hamlets and Enfield have been informed.
