A CANARY Wharf based businessman is running for Parliament in Poplar and Limehouse as the UKIP candidate.

Wayne Lochner who worked as a broker in the Middle East and Asia is the latest parliamentary hopeful to throw his hat into the ring at the hotly contested Poplar and Limehouse seat.

He returned to the UK in 1995 and has worked as a director of public and private businesses in the City.

He said: "I am appalled at developments in EU regulation of the City."

He said he was also concerned about allegations in a Channel 4 documentary of reported infiltration of Tower Hamlets council by the Islamic Federation of Europe.

The full list of candidates in the General Election in Poplar and Limehouse are due to be released shortly.

There are said to be 11 people who will be contesting the seat.
