Another batch of 20 young volunteers has completed training to become ‘champions’ for Tower Hamlets council’s ‘no place for hate’ campaign tacking racism in the East End.
They are all members of the authority’s Youth Council who have made a commitment to tackling hatred and discrimination by raising awareness among young people of the impact it has on victims.
“These crimes are real things that happen to people,” Youth Council member Priya Kaur said. “This training lets us be more proactive in dealing with problems and gives us confidence to share ideas on how to prevent hate crime in the first place.”
The ‘champions’ join 84 others who have received training, including professionals from voluntary and statutory organisations, council enforcement officers and staff from a disability charity.
The ‘no place for hate’ campaign helps prosecute perpetrators while also supporting victims of racism and hate crime.
