Temping jobs at Tower Hamlets Council will be filled by existing staff and local residents wherever possible, in an attempt to provide jobs for the borough’s own workforce.
People registered with Skillsmatch, the council’s job brokerage service, and those signed up to recruitment agencies in Tower Hamlets, will be prioritised for temporary work.
Mayor Lutfur Rahman said: “As one of the largest employers in the borough, the council has a responsibility to ensure it looks at its existing workforce and recruits from the local community, wherever possible.
“Temporary jobs often provide a route into permanent employment, by giving people the chance to gain valuable skills and experience, while earning money.
“This is just one example of the council’s commitment to ensuring that its workforce reflects the local community.”
