The franchise for London’s own TV station has been won by the Evening Standard newspaper.
Five groups were competing for the new digital channel, including Archant London newspapers, publishers of the Docklands & East London Advertiser and the Newham Recorder, which was part of the LondonTV consortium with two other local newspaper chains.
The winners for the new Government-awarded franchise, to be called ‘London Live,’ showed “understanding of London’s diverse communities” and offered opportunities for community involvement, said Ofcom, the broadcasting industry’s regulating body.
