LONDON taxi fares go up tomorrow (Saturday) by 2.3 per cent, passengers are warned.
The increase, approved by transport bosses at City Hall in February, includes 1.9 per cent based on the rise in average national earnings and an increase in insurance rates which have gone up by almost a fifth this year.
The rise, the lowest since 2004, is aimed at a balance between maintaining income levels for drivers, who face disproportionately higher costs than average Londoners, while ensuring passengers get a fair price for cab journeys. It follows consultations by TfL with the taxi trade, the passengers watchdog London TravelWatch and the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
