Australian exits the club after ‘exercising right in his contract’

Shane Lowry has left Leyton Orient, the club confirmed in a statement this afternoon.

The Australian, who joined the O’s last summer, has been looking to exit Brisbane Road since they suffered relegation from League One last season.

Lowry, 26, had been on trial with Championship outfit Birmingham City at the start of pre-season and featured for them in a friendly match against Kidderminster Harries.

He scored in that fixture, but wasn’t offered a contract with the Blues and returned to Orient.

Head coach Ian Hendon confirmed at Newport County last weekend that the defender had been training with the group, but he has now left Orient.

A statement on the official club website read: “Leyton Orient FC can confirm today that defender Shane Lowry has exercised the right in his contract to leave the club.”

It brings an end to his time at Brisbane Road where he made 31 league starts last season and 40 appearances in all competitions for the O’s.

Lowry’s departure will likely mean Hendon can bring in more faces to the club before the end of the transfer window with adding to defence a priority now.
