The O’s top goalscorer saw a header deflect off Dan Jones and into the Barrow net before grabbing a late brace, but he is trying to take home the match ball

Leyton Orient eventually overcame a stubborn Barrow team to record a 4-1 victory at Brisbane Road and assistant Ross Embleton praised the ruthless streak of his side.

For the third consecutive game, the O’s scored three goals or more and made it three wins in a row in the National League.

It looked like being another afternoon to forgot in E10 for the hosts when Luke James put the Bluebirds in front, but a Dan Jones own-goal in the 28th minute levelled it up for Orient and they scored three second-half goals to claim the points.

Embleton said: “Before the game we spoke about how Barrow were fighting for their lives and how we had to make sure we were ruthless.

“We want to develop that mindset of putting teams who are suffering or in trouble to bed and after a ropey start and a mistake for the goal, we got back on the front foot and put them to the sword.”

Barrow took the lead with six minutes played when Jones’ cross was headed home by the unmarked James.

Orient equalised just before the half an hour mark though, when Macauley Bonne flicked on Jobi McAnuff’s cross and the ball hit Jones and went past Steve Arnold in the away goal.

It remained 1-1 until the 72nd minute when a Sam Ling throw was headed on by George Elokobi and substitute Josh Koroma bundled the ball in at the back post.

Ady Pennock’s team were handed more bad news with 77 on the clock when Jones saw red for a second yellow card.

Orient made their numerical advantage count with two goals after the 90 minutes were up.

First James Brophy set up Bonne for a tap-in after his initial cross had been blocked and O’s top goalscorer grabbed his 23rd goal of the season in all competitions minutes later when he headed home Joe Widdowson’s cross.

It capped a good afternoon for Bonne and Orient, who move up to 12th, but the former Colchester United striker wasn’t content with just a brace.

Embleton added: “He is trying very hard to claim a hat-trick. At the time I actually thought Marvin (Ekpiteta) was close to it, so I thought it was Marvin’s goal.

“It was a very good flick by ‘Macca’ and he is arguing it is already on its way in. I’ll give him that if he wants, but I’m not really convinced.”
