Once upon a time, there was a charity in east London called ‘Magic Me’ that was looking for grown-ups to join their team of storytellers.

It is running a nine-week creative storytelling project with children from Clara Grant primary school in Bromley-by-Bow.

People over 55 are being invited to join a group of Year 4 children to share stories of home and explore ideas about what it means to be ‘at home’ in their neighbourhood.

Magic Me is holding weekly workshops led by storyteller Surya Turner and visual artist Ben Connors to find out what it means to be ‘at home’ and to bring their stories to life.

“The project is open for anyone to join for the next few weeks if they’re interested,” said a Magic Me story-teller called Deborah. “Ideally those taking part will be able to come regularly to as many sessions as possible.”

The workshop sessions start today and are being held every Friday from 1am to 3pm at Gayton House in Fern Street, Bromley-by-Bow, until March 23.

Wannabe story-tellers can contact Sunara Begum at the Linc Centre on 020-7538 5748 to register—and maybe live happily ever after.
