Police have arrested a 19-year-old man following yesterday’s discovery of a suspicious item on a tube train heading to Canary Wharf.
Earlier today, at 12.20pm, officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, assisted by armed officers, arrested a man at an address in Holloway, Islington, under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
Officers discharged a taser during the arrest.
The man was arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorism acts and is currently in custody at a London police station.
Yesterday Transport Police were called to North Greenwich station on the Jubilee Line when Underground staff found the item on a train going eastbound.
The station was evacuated and remained closed most of the day as specialist officers made the item safe.
The police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and are now awaiting results whilst the item is forensically examined.
Police urge anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on the Jubilee Line or anywhere else to call the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800-789321.
