A MAN was badly injured late last night when he plunged 30ft from Tower Pier onto the Thames foreshore.
He had been out with friends by the Tower of London when he fell from the pontoon in the dark at 10pm and landed on his back on the muddy foreshore while the tide was out.
A rapid response medical team from the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel was treating him at the scene for a severe back injury when he suddenly went into a cardiac arrest and had to be revived.
He was then carried by stretcher into the London Fire Brigade rescue launch and lifted onto the pier to a waiting ambulance.
The man, a foreign exchange student in his 20s, was taken by ambulance to the Royal London following the hour-long rescue in a life critical’ condition.
