A man has been jailed for killing his older brother by strangling him and leaving his body undiscovered for a week at the family home in London’s East End.

Juhel Ahmed, 30, was found guilty of murdering 36-year-old Ruhel Ahmed at their flat in Stepney’s Timor House in Duckett Street.

He was jailed for life yesterday at the Old Bailey and ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years after being found guilty at his trial on Friday.

Ruhel’s body was discovered in the bedroom when police and paramedics were called to the flat at 7.15pm on September 3. He had been lying in the bedroom for at least a week, murdered sometime around August 28, it is believed.

A post-mortem examination at Poplar Mortuary on September 5 gave cause of death as compression to the neck.

Detectives were told by his family that Ruhel’s younger brother Juhel was responsible for the killing.

The brothers had been involved in disputes over the years and had argued over Juhel’s damaged pot plants just before the murder, the court heard.

Juhel went to hospital for treatment to injuries to his hand after the fight.

But it was a week before Ruhel’s body was found when police and an ambulance crew arrived at the flat. Juhel was questioned, then arrested and charged on September 7.
