Around 50 fire-fighters tackled the blaze at a third floor flat in the housing block in Turin Street for three hours after being called to the scene at 4.30pm today.

The man is being treated for smoke inhalation.

The fire destroyed the flat and the four-storey housing block’s entire roof but did not spread elsewhere.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
