A man has been seriously injured after colliding with a car in Mile End Road this morning.

Witnesses told how the pedestrian, thought to be in his 50s or 60s, fell under the car after colliding with the bonnet as he crossed the road.

Police confirmed that the accident occurred at around 10.55am on the junction of Mile End Road and Southern Grove.

The man was taken to the Royal London hospital with head injuries.

The road has been cordoned off by traffic officers on both sides.
