A 20-year-old martial artist who was shot dead has been praised as a “nice young man” who will be “sadly missed”.
Stratford-based Jordan Bari died from gunshot wounds in Bethnal Green after a shooting in Florida Street at around 8pm on Monday night.
A talented Tang Soo Do fighter, Jordan trained for many years at the London Black Belt Academy at Newham Leisure Centre, in Prince Regent Lane, Beckton.
Master Kieran Mackey said: “He was a member of our family.
“I trained him since he was about seven. He was a very good martial artist, a very hard worker.”
Mr Mackey, 53, who has been teaching in Newham for 25 years, added: “There are about 150 students in the organisation and he will be sadly missed by all of us.”
Police believe Mr Bari, who attended Gallions Primary School in Warwall, Beckton, answered the door at the Bethnal Green address to an unknown person or persons before being shot.
Two men – one aged 21 and the other 29 – have been arrested in connection with Mr Bari’s death, but both have been bailed.
Police continue to appeal for witnesses and information to aid their investigation.
Det Ch Insp Chris Jones, who is leading the investigation, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around 8pm on Monday evening and saw anything suspicious in the vicinity of Florida Street to come forward and speak to police.
“At this early stage we are still working to establish the reasons why this young man was killed – if you have any information that could help, please contact us.”
