League Two leaders come to E10 tomorrow and O’s are looking to beat them

After scoring Leyton Orient’s winner at Portsmouth last weekend, Jobi McAnuff is keen for them to build more momentum on Saturday at Brisbane Road.

Northampton Town come to east London and Kevin Nolan’s men are relishing the prospect of facing the League Two leaders.

The Cobblers sit top of the pile with just five defeats from their 28 matches this year and a healthy 61-point total.

Pompey were the last team to beat them in the division back on December 19, which makes the O’s 1-0 success at Fratton Park even more impressive.

Paul Cook’s side have only suffered five losses in the league and two of them have came against Orient this season.

McAnuff scored in the 1-0 victory on the south coast at the weekend and felt they put down a marker by winning the match.

It has taken them back into the play-off positions and up to sixth in the standings.

They are now keen to get on another run of form under new player-manager Nolan to keep the positivity at the club going.

“To win at Portsmouth was a statement,” said McAnuff.

“We knew that going into the game, maybe we wouldn’t raise a few eyebrows, but people would look and think ‘fair play that is a good result to go and win there.’

“It was something we wanted to do and we want to make sure we get in the play-offs.

“We want to cement our place in the top seven now and crack on for the rest of the season.

“Our target is to get a bit of momentum going for whatever is to come at the end of the season.”

It seems at the moment if the O’s are to achieve promotion come May then it will be through the play-offs, but more success this weekend may change that.

Northampton will pose a stern test for Nolan, but McAnuff feels the pressure is on the Cobblers to keep winning.

He admitted it will be good to get back to Brisbane Road after a disappointing 3-1 reverse at home against Cambridge United on January 30.

They have a chance to put that right on Saturday and make another statement in the league.

McAnuff added: “The pressure is more on Northampton because they are at the top.

“For us, it is probably not a bad thing to be at home because we need to get back to winning games there again.

“If we can do that and put the away performances together like we have been, then we’ll be a threat come the end of the season.”

Orient’s form under Nolan on the road has been excellent, even if he has only taken charge of two away matches so far.

At home, they struggled to break down Newport County before getting the win and lost badly to the U’s most recently.

If they can make Brisbane Road a fortress again – they have only won two of their last seven games there in all competitions – then it would help set them up for a grandstand finish to the campaign.

Another good result against the Cobblers is more than possible with the previous encounter finishing 1-1 at Sixfields despite Orient dominating the game.

The O’s have changed manager since, but now it is Northampton having to worry with boss Chris Wilder being linked with the Rotherham United job.

Now could be a good time for Nolan’s side to strike. Another win would be a big statement.
