The 34-year-old is older than player-manager Kevin Nolan but isn’t thinking about the future yet
Jobi McAnuff is fully concentrated on Leyton Orient and not thinking too much about life after football just yet.
The Jamaican international showed he has plenty left in the locker by scoring a wonderful winner at Portsmouth on Saturday.
He curled over home goalkeeper Ryan Fulton to give Kevin Nolan’s side a fully deserved 1-0 victory on the south coast.
McAnuff is actually older than Nolan, but aims to play for a long while and is loving his football at Brisbane Road.
“Obviously you have to start thinking about life after football because I am 34 now and I won’t play forever,” said the Orient ace.
“I am enjoying my football now, I feel fit and I want to play as long as I can first and foremost.
“You always think about things after football, but at the minute I am focused on playing well and enjoying it and I am right now.”
The winner at Fratton Park wasn’t the first strike of quality from the experienced ace this season.
He smashed in an unstoppable effort against Yeovil Town in December, which was arguably just as good.
When asked to pick his best of the season, the former Reading captain added: “It was a good one but I think my goal at home was probably a better strike - pure wise.
“At Portsmouth I suppose it was as good, I will have to have a look as I haven’t seen it back yet. It was nice to get it.”
Orient’s second half display at Fratton Park was one of their best of the campaign after a uneventful opening 45.
Nolan and his squad were satisfied with how things had gone during the first period against Portsmouth and it was similar to their performance at Wycombe Wanderers.
“We were pretty happy with the first half in terms of stifling what they were doing and being solid, which you have to do away from home,” said McAnuff.
“We know what we have got in the changing room so we are confident of creating chances and scoring goals as long as we can keep it simple. We just came out and wanted to start the first 15 minutes of the second half well and see where it went.”
It certainly ended nicely for the O’s as they earned another away success to move up to sixth in the table.
