London Bridge: Memorial service to mark one year since terror attack

The lives of eight people killed during the London Bridge terror attack are set to be remembered at a special service one year on.

Southwark Cathedral, located close to the scene of the attack, is hosting a memorial event on Sunday where four stone corbels commissioned to mark the anniversary and a tree of healing will be blessed.
It will be taking place a year to the day after Khuram Butt, 27 and Rachid Redouane, 30, both from Barking, and Youssef Zaghba, 22, from Ilford, ploughed their van into pedestrians on the bridge before stabbing revellers in nearby Borough Market.
They were shot and killed by police at the scene.
Their victims included Ignacio Echeverria, 39, a bank worker who lived in Poplar, Canadian Chrissy Archibald, 30, and Australian Kirsty Boden, 28.

Also killed were 32-year-old Hackney resident James McMullan, Australian Sara Zelenak, 21, and French nationals Alexandre Pigeard, 27, Sebastien Belanger, 36, and Xavier Thomas, 45.
Mr Thomas’ body was recovered from the River Thames near Limehouse three days after the attack.

Following the service, which will begin at 3pm, there will be a procession from the cathedral to London Bridge so that flowers can be laid and a minute’s silence held.
Anyone who wishes to attend is invited to register at cathedral.southwark.anglican.org as there is limited seating available.
The minute’s silence will also be observed across the country at 4.30pm on Sunday.
