THE MEMORIES of people who recall the Wapping Dispute in 1986-1987 are being recorded for a history project in East London.

Eastside Community Heritage wants to hear from people who were on both sides of the fence during the acrimonious dispute at the News International print works owned by Rupert Murdoch.

The trust’s Judith Garside said: “We are collecting and recording memories of the 1986 – 87 strike against the sacking of over 5,000 print workers by News International. The strike was pivotal for both the printing industry and the British union movement. Were you a print worker, a News International employee, a trade unionist, a demonstrator or a resident of Wapping? We would like to hear from you if you were.”

People should contact the trust on 020 8 553 4343.
