POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a 69-year-old woman died from head and chest injuries.
The woman has been named as Howarum Begum, of Lister House in Vallance Road, Whitechapel.
Officers were called to her home last night with reports of an possible assault of a woman there.
Ambulance staff were also called out but Mrs Begum was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and is in custody at an east London police station.
A post mortem at Poplar Mortuary today gave the cause of death as severe blunt trauma to the head and chest.
