EAST End cops hauled a jumbo jet down a New York runway to raise money for kids with cancer.

Around 80 Met officers and staff, some from Tower Hamlets, flew to New York last month to drag the plane in a race against their counterparts from the New York Police Department.

The victorious Met officers dragged the plane a total of 25 metres, beating the New York City cops and raising money for children suffering from neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer.

Tower Hamlet cop PC David Doig said: "We had to wear great big oven like gloves to hold onto enormous ropes attached to the front of the plane.

"The company that lent us the plane also made their own donation. Between us we hope to raise 50,000.
