A PASSENGER is to get a cash pay out from London Underground after she suffered a facial injury when part of a damaged and detached on a moving tube train hit her as she stood on a platform at Mile End.

Three women were hurt in the incident when the damaged canvas inter-car barrier on a moving Central line train hit them as they waited on the platform in November last year during the busy rush hour and two of them needed hospital treatment, including the woman who has taken legal action after she suffered a cut to her eye and head.

The accident was reported to Transport for London’s Board today as London Underground is facing legal action for a breach of health and safety regulations and will pleading guilty to the safety breach at a court hearing in November.

A Transport for London spokesman said: “This type of incident is incredibly rare and we again apologise to the three customers that were injured. London Underground has an excellent safety record and is disappointed that the Office of Rail Regulation has decided that LU should be prosecuted. Following a full investigation, which was reviewed by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch and found by them to be thorough, we have implemented all recommendations to minimise the risk of a similar incident re-occurring.”
